Carson Yeung jailed for six years

Birmingham City owner Carson Yeung is sentenced to six years in prison for money laundering.

Birmingham City owner Carson Yeung has been jailed for six years for money laundering.

On Monday, Yeung was found guilty of five counts of the offence after initially being arrested in June 2011, and the Hong Kong businessman has been charged with the laundering of HK$720m (£55m) between 2001 and 2007.

Judge Douglas Yau stated earlier this week that the 54-year-old's testimony had been "self-contradictory" and that he was "making it up as he went along", but despite the imprisonment, the Blues' acting chairman Peter Pannu has insisted that the verdict will have no impact on the day-to-day running of the Championship club.

Yeung, who bought Birmingham in 2009, resigned as the club's president and director last month.
