Jason Day leads but rain stops play during first round at BMW Championship

Inclement weather causes havoc on day one of the BMW Championship as Jason Day and Jordan Spieth fail to complete their first rounds.

Round one of the BMW Championship has been suspended due to inclement weather in Lake Forest, Illinois.

US PGA champion Jason Day looked in fine form as he led the field on 10-under-par after 17 holes, before play was halted under the threat of lightning.

Jordan Spieth, who won two of the four Majors this year, also finished on 17 as he sits five shots adrift of the Australian, despite bagging a hole-in-one on the second.

Spieth sits level with Kevin Chappell, who reached as far as 16, and Justin Thomas, who finished his round on 13.

On six-under, Daniel Berger is Day's closest rival as he and Brendon Todd - who sits one stroke back - both finished out their first rounds.

Play will resume at 7.30am local time.
