Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly contact Bournemouth over the possibility of re-signing Benik Afobe on a half-season loan.

Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly made a bid to re-sign striker Benik Afobe on loan for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a prolific 12 months with the Midlands side, scoring 22 goals in 36 Championship appearances before sealing a £10m switch to the Premier League with Bournemouth in January 2016.

Afobe has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular under Eddie Howe, however, and the Cherries are consequently said to be open to the idea of him leaving the club this month should they receive a suitable offer.

According to the Express & Star, Wolves have contacted Bournemouth about a half-season loan but have been told that the Premier League side will only consider loan deals with a view to a permanent move in the summer.

The newspaper says that Nuno Espirito Santo's side are unwilling to commit to anything more concrete than a one-off loan deal this month, however, putting any possible arrangement in doubt.

Wolves' fierce rivals West Bromwich Albion have also been linked with the player in recent weeks.
