Wolverhampton Wanderers explain Wayne Hennessey exit

Wolverhampton Wanderers chief executive Jez Moxey says that they sold Wayne Hennessey to Crystal Palace because they had received an acceptable offer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers chief executive Jez Moxey has explained why the club decided to sell goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey to Crystal Palace on transfer deadline day.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper joined the Premier League outfit for a reported £3m fee earlier on Friday.

"With Wayne this season, it was a similar situation to other players in the past such as Joleon Lescott whereby if we received an acceptable offer from a Premier League club we were not going to stand in his way," BBC Sport quotes Moxey as saying.

"It was a case of once again proving his fitness, as he did with Yeovil, and then when the bid came in, reaching agreement with Crystal Palace.

"We are fortunate to have some excellent goalkeepers here at Wolves, with Carl Ikeme and Aaron McCarey as the senior men and some more good young goalkeepers in behind."

Hennessey has played 41 international matches for Wales.
