Mick McCarthy says his side have been left "hurting" from four defeats on the bounce.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has admitted that his boys are "hurting" after four successive league defeats.

A 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle at the weekend compounded the Midlands side's misery going into the international break.

"We started well against Newcastle but then you consider we've lost three games on the bounce, and then you concede from a corner, it just knocks the guts out of you for a while," McCarthy told the official Wolves website.

"God above - and people think the players are feeling it! The game just becomes difficult to play in then and yet the second-half performance was admirable."

McCarthy added that he was now looking forward to turning fortunes at the derby with West Brom on Sunday week.

"We had three great results prior to the last international break and now we've come back and lost four. So let's hope it reverses itself now - I'll always look on the positive.

"We're going to have to bounce back again... [and] the best place to stop this run is where we go a week on Sunday."
