Nuno Espirito Santo: 'Competition for places at Wolverhampton Wanderers is key'

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo says "internal competition" at the club is key as they attempt to challenge for promotion from the Championship.

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has suggested that he will look to use a variety of options and strategies throughout the season.

Nuno and his Wolves squad have earned widespread praise for their victories over Middlesbrough and Derby County, with some bookmakers installing the West Midlands outfit as the new favourites for promotion to the Premier League.

The Portuguese has selected unchanged starting lineups for the club's opening fixtures in the Championship, but the former Porto boss has hinted that he will tinker with his side depending on the opposition.

The 43-year-old is quoted by the Express & Star as saying: "It's important to know who you're going to compete with and who you're going to face. You can see by the results, not only our games, but the results we have in these tools.

"Internal competition for a place in the team, but also in the squad. What it tells me is that no matter what choices we make they'll be made with a lot of thinking.

"We have other options. It's for us to decide, for us to pick the right one. We prepared this before, we knew what calendar we'd have. So the players are ready to play Saturday/Tuesday because they've worked very hard in pre-season with a lot of hours on the pitch."

Wolves continue their tough start to the campaign with a trip to Hull City on Tuesday night.
