Owen Coyle lauds Lee Nicholls display for Wigan Athletic

Wigan Athletic boss Owen Coyle heaps praise on young goalkeeper Lee Nicholls for his display in yesterday's draw at Charlton Athletic.

Wigan Athletic manager Owen Coyle has heaped praise on young goalkeeper Lee Nicholls for his performance in yesterday's Championship game at Charlton.

The 21-year-old was called in at the last minute when first-choice Latics stopper Scott Carson suffered an injury in the warm-up.

Nicolls, who spent last season on loan at Northampton Town, kept a clean sheet on just his second appearance for the club to delight boss Coyle.

"He took his crosses, he came and looked a real man and that is great for the football club," said the Scottish manager.

"He was outstanding. To get a shut-out - ordinarily with the chances we create that would result in three points."

A point saw Wigan climb to 14th in the Championship. Coyle's side do have two games in-hand on most teams around them, though, because of their European commitments this season.
