Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan admits his surprise after his side beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has admitted his surprise with his side's victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

The Latics caused a major upset at Wembley Stadium on Saturday as Ben Watson scored in injury time to give them their first ever triumph in the competition with a 1-0 win.

"At the start, secretly I didn't think we could win," Whelan told BBC Sport. "I thought we'd fight and we would be close.

"You cannot describe what it feels like when you get hold of that FA Cup. Fantastic!"

Wigan continue their battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League on Tuesday when they travel to Arsenal.
