West Ham United secured their first home win in six months as they beat Portsmouth 4-3 this afternoon.

The visitors led after seven minutes when Luke Varney's deflected shot found its way into the Hammers' net.

The hosts were level within a minute through Matthew Taylor's curled free kick.

West Ham went ahead after the break when loan signing Henri Lansbury's shot crept over the line.

Pompey made it 2-2 on the hour as David Norris's header snuck in, but they were soon a man down after Liam Lawrence picked up his second yellow card of the afternoon.

The home side took the lead once more on 67 minutes when Mark Noble converted from the penalty spot after Jason Pearce had handled in the area.

Sam Allardyce's side extended their lead with 15 minutes to play through Carlton Cole's header.

There was late drama when Frederic Piquionne was sent off for raising his hands to Greg Halford, who scored from the spot deep into injury time after Tal Ben Haim was fouled.

West Ham move up to fourth in the Championship, while Portsmouth drop to 14th.
