West Bromwich Albion receive penalty apology from chief referee Mike Riley

West Brom's Steve Clarke reveals that the club have received an apology from referee chief Mike Riley over the controversial penalty awarded against them during their draw with Chelsea.

West Bromwich Albion head coach Steve Clarke has revealed that the club have received an apology from Professional Game Match Officials Limited chief Mike Riley following a controversial penalty.

The Baggies had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on November 9 after referee Andre Marriner gave the Blues a penalty when Steven Reid and Ramires clashed in the box.

"We've had a phonecall from Mike Riley to apologise," Clarke told the club's official website.

"It doesn't get us any more points but it's nice of Mike to phone. If he's apologising, he obviously feels it was the wrong decision. We have to put it behind us now and move forward."

Clarke also confirmed that the club have sent a letter to the PGMOL and the Premier League alluding to four penalty decisions that they feel have gone against them this season.
