Ben Watson backs Watford to make step up to Premier League football

Ben Watson says that Watford could go on to establish themselves in the Premier League following their promotion from the Championship.

Watford midfielder Ben Watson has stated that the Hornets will be looking to establish themselves in the Premier League.

The Hertfordshire outfit will play in the top flight for the first time in eight years this season after winning promotion from the Championship last term.

Watson is confident that he and his teammates can make the step up to the higher level successfully.

"The way things are done at Watford are of Premier League standard," he told the Watford Observer. "We have the platform here at Watford to go on and on. The owners wanted their club to be a Premier League club and they've managed to do that.

"Now the first season is about staying up, nothing else. If we stay up it is as good as winning the league or being promoted. That is our aim and we want to finish as high as possible.

"The longer you are in the Premier League the more it benefits everyone associated with the club. We can't get too ahead of ourselves and start thinking we can win the league in a couple of years. But we can look at how other teams have established themselves."

Watford open up their Premier League campaign at Everton on August 8.
