Landon Donovan: 'US must believe they can win World Cup'

Landon Donovan insists that the US must believe that they can win the World Cup this summer.

Landon Donovan has disputed claims from US head coach Jurgen Klinsmann that the current squad cannot win the World Cup.

Klinsmann suggested that hopes of recording success in Brazil were unrealistic, but Donovan believes that anything is possible if they can get out of Group G, which also features Ghana, Germany and Portugal.

"This will come as a surprise to nobody, but I don't agree with Jurgen," Donovan, who missed out on a place in the squad for the tournament, told reporters.

"If we're really expected to go out and beat Portugal and beat Ghana and beat Germany, in my opinion, Germany is one of the best teams in the world, if you can beat Germany, why can't you beat anybody else?

"It doesn't mean it's going to happen, but I believe. I think all of America believes it. We can do it."

Klinsmann's side begin their campaign against Ghana on Monday.
