Francesco Guidolin "confident" of Swansea City progress

Swansea City boss Francesco Guidolin insists that supporters can "look to the future with optimism" despite concerns over the club's new recruits.

Francesco Guidolin has declared himself "happy" with Swansea City's transfer business and insisted that his side can achieve success this season.

The Swans spent more than £30m on new recruits in the summer by bringing in Borja Baston, Fernando Llorente, Alfie Mawson, Leroy Fer and Mike van der Hoorn on permanent deals.

Questions remain over how quickly the Welsh outfit's new strike pair will adapt to their first taste of the Premier League, however, with some supporters unhappy with the club's overall transfer activity.

Guidolin has put a more positive spin on things, though, claiming that City now have a solid team in place despite defeat to Leicester City in their last outing.

"I think we have a good team," he told reporters. "I am happy with my players and I think it's important to look to the future with optimism. But it's time to do well on the pitch, because I was disappointed with the last game at Leicester.

"We prepared another game before Leicester, but they played very well in the first half and they deserved to win. We have to change this because the Premier League is very hard, but with my players I am confident.

"In the last two weeks we have worked hard to prepare for the game against Chelsea. We have not had a lot of players [because of the international break], but I think we have worked well. We have a good group and I think we can do well."

Swansea, who have fallen to back-to-back defeats since beating Burnley on the opening day, return to action this weekend with a clash against Chelsea.
