John O'Shea: 'We can repeat heroics to avoid relegation'

John O'Shea believes that Sunderland can repeat last season's heroics to avoid relegation.

John O'Shea has insisted that Sunderland are capable of repeating the form they showed at the end of last season to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Former manager Paolo Di Canio guided the Black Cats to safety in the previous campaign with some impressive results, and O'Shea is sure that the current squad can do the same to climb out of the bottom three.

"Look, we are not going to give in, we are going to give everything that we can possibly give to make sure we stay a Premier League team," the Irish defender told reporters.

"We got ourselves into a situation last season where we had to produce some big performances and get some big wins, and we were able to do it.

"We hope we are able to do it this time too, it's as simple as that."

Gus Poyet's side take on Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Monday.
