Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing to hijack Newcastle United's attempts to sign Lille centre-back Sven Botman this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly hoping to pip Newcastle United to the signature of Lille centre-back Sven Botman.

The Magpies' co-owner Amanda Staveley recently confirmed that Botman was determined to secure a transfer to St James' Park in the January transfer window, but a move did not materialise.

The 22-year-old played a vital role in Lille's Ligue 1 title win during the 2020-21 campaign but is being tipped to leave in the summer as Les Dogues languish in mid-table this time around.

Newcastle are expected to reignite their interest ahead of the 2022-23 season, but according to the Daily Star, Tottenham are now also in the race for his services.

The report adds that Antonio Conte is determined to beat Newcastle to Botman's signature, with Spurs fearful that the Italian could depart if he is not backed in the transfer market.

Botman has registered three goals and one assist from 18 Ligue 1 appearances this season, and his contract with the French champions does not expire until the summer of 2025.
