Sevilla plotting Federico Fazio return

Tottenham Hotspur defender Federico Fazio is a January target of his former team Sevilla, according to the Spanish club's president.

Sevilla president Jose Castro has revealed that he will try to re-sign defender Federico Fazio from Tottenham Hotspur next month.

The centre-back left Sevilla for North London in August 2014, but he has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the starting lineup at White Hart Lane.

The 28-year-old made 25 appearances in all competitions last term, while this season he has had just one outing.

He left Sevilla under somewhat of a cloud 18 months ago, but Castro has conceded that he is prepared to swallow his pride and anger by taking Fazio back to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

"We are working on a number of options and Fazio is one of them. He is an option, but nothing has been completed as of yet," he told Radio Sevilla.

"It is clear that Fazio did not leave Sevilla in the best of ways and that really upset me, but I have to think about Sevilla's interests.

"I have to swallow my anger, because this club needs Fazio. I do not like swallowing my pride, but I am willing to do something I do not like because it is in Sevilla's best interest."

The Argentine played almost 200 times for Sevilla during his first stint in Andalusia.
