Harry Kane: "We had to build momentum"

Harry Kane says that Spurs need to maintain their momentum if they are to reach the top four this season, and that he is concentrating on club rather than country.

Harry Kane has said that Tottenham Hotspur need to maintain their momentum if they are to reach the Champions League this season.

Kane scored both goals for Spurs in Saturday's 2-1 win at Queens Park Rangers, which took them to three points off fourth-placed Manchester United.

He told reporters after the game: "We've had a disappointing couple of weeks so we had to build momentum and get up the league. Which we have done with two good results. Andros [Townsend] put in a great ball in great area and that's it, back of the net. The second one I was happy to round the keeper and put it in the back of the net.

"It's a massive win, we always seem to be winning 2-1. We looked in control, but we looked in control the other night and Hugo Lloris had to make a big save. So we have to improve in killing teams off.

"I'm loving my football, being out there with my team-mates and my mates. I feel good and confident, it's important for a striker to have that. The second goal was a nice composed finish.

Spurs have not finished in the top four since the 2011-12 season, and Kane acknowledged the difficulty of reaching the top European competition once again.

He added: "There are a lot of top teams up there and whoever can put a run together will be right up there. That's what we are hoping to do and it's a big game at Old Trafford next week."

When questioned on a possible first senior England call up, Kane said: "I just need to keep doing what I'm doing. There are still a few more games until the international break so I just need to the best I can for Spurs."

Kane has now scored 26 goals in all competitions for Tottenham this season.
