Jermain Defoe becomes Tottenham Hotspur's top scorer in Europe

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe breaks Martin Chivers's European goalscoring record in their Europa League tie with Sheriff Tiraspol.

Jermain Defoe has become Tottenham Hotspur's all-time top goalscorer in European competitions after scoring in their Europa League tie with Sheriff Tiraspol.

The England international broke Martin Chivers's 39-year record of 22 goals for the club with a second-half penalty.

Despite not being a regular starter in the Premier League this season, Defoe leads the club's scoring charts and tonight took his season tally to seven goals.
