Ronald Koeman: 'Champions League football still possible for Southampton'

Ronald Koeman believes that Southampton can still achieve a top-four finish following their defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has insisted that his side can still qualify for the Champions League following their defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

The Saints slipped down to sixth place in the Premier League table on the weekend as their winless run was extended to three games with a 1-0 loss at The Hawthorns.

Despite his team's recent slump in form, Koeman believes that they can still achieve a top-four finish this season.

"Champions League football is still possible if we win seven or eight of 11 matches but it will be difficult," the Dutchman is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "If we win five of 11 games, that means 61 points and we will be playing European football.

"We need to be more ruthless in the box, but it's not just the strikers, it's the team who need to create more chances. I need to be clear to the players in what we are trying to do and trying to reach."

Southampton have the chance to get back to winning ways on Tuesday when they host Crystal Palace in the league.
