Dick Advocaat apologies to Serbia supporters

Dick Advocaat takes responsibility for Serbia's plight after stepping down as manager following their 3-1 defeat to Denmark in Euro 2016 qualification.

Outgoing Serbia manager Dick Advocaat has apologised to the national team's supporters for failing to meet expectations during his stint in charge.

The former Rangers boss left his post following the Euro 2016 qualifying defeat to Denmark on Friday, and he was quick to take responsibility for the team's plight.

"I am very sorry that my spell worked out this way. I take responsibility for everything I've done at the professional level in the period," he said in a statement.

"The pressure we were under was clearly visible and was also too big for this team. I was confronted with a problem that I could not solve. I think I made the honourable decision for me, it was very difficult.

"I wish the Serbian team all the best for the future."

Advocaat becomes the third national manager to leave his job today following the departures of Temuri Ketsbaia and Claudio Ranieri from Georgia and Greece respectively.
