Scottish Premiership strugglers Ross County confirm the appointment of former Blackburn Rovers boss Owen Coyle as the club's new manager.

Ross County have appointed Owen Coyle as their new manager on a two-year contract.

The 51-year-old replaces Jim McIntyre, who was sacked on Monday after three years in charge.

County sit third from bottom in the Scottish Premiership after seven games, a point above Partick Thistle and Kilmarnock, whom they face on Saturday.

Coyle, who previously managed Blackburn Rovers, Burnley and Wigan Athletic, will start with immediate effect, with longtime associate Sandy Stewart coming on board as assistant manager.

The former Republic of Ireland striker spent three months on loan at the Staggies during the 2000-01 season but has not managed in Scotland since his spell in charge of St Johnstone a decade ago.
