Harry Arter hopeful of making Republic of Ireland squad for Euro 2016

Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter is hopeful that he can earn a place in the Republic of Ireland squad for Euro 2016.

Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter has claimed that he hopes to seal a place in the Republic of Ireland squad for Euro 2016 once he has recovered from an Achilles injury.

Arter was left out of Martin O'Neill's squad for this week's friendlies against Switzerland and Slovakia as he is yet to return to full fitness.

With the major tournament on the horizon, Arter is hopeful that he will have another chance to prove his ability to the manager.

"Of course I had the Euros in my mind," Sky Sports News quotes Arter as saying. "That's why I wanted to be fit and available to play, but the doctor seemed pretty certain that it wouldn't help.

"I said to the boss that I could play through the injury if needs be, but he was really supportive and said that I could get myself right and have another opportunity in May.

"So now I am just going to take some rest and try to settle it down. Hopefully it won't take too long."

Arter has made just one appearance for the nation.
