Jermain Defoe is set to be the next to commit to the club.

Steven Davis and Allan McGregor have followed manager Steven Gerrard in signing new Rangers contracts.

The experienced pair have both completed one-year extensions to commit themselves until the end of next season.

Rangers tied down Gerrard until 2024 on Friday and have also been working on a deal to extend Jermain Defoe's stay once his loan deal from Bournemouth expires at the end of the season.

Midfielder Davis and goalkeeper McGregor are both in their second spells at Ibrox and have been key players this season.

Davis, who turns 35 on New Year's Day, told the Rangers website: "I am delighted to get it all sorted. I think everyone can see I have been enjoying my football and I was keen to extend my stay.

"I know from my first spell, this club really draws you in and it is a great club to be a part of and I feel with the group we have got here, we are moving in the right direction."

The Northern Ireland international missed last weekend's Betfred Cup final defeat by Celtic with a calf injury and watched his team-mates reach the last 32 of the Europa League in midweek.

"The manager demands a lot of us and the players have a real desire to try and bring success back to the club," Davis said.

"There are probably going to be bumps along the road and we know that, but I do feel we are moving in the right direction.

"It has been a really positive start to the season, but there is a lot of work to do in getting to our goals that we have set.

"There is a real desire and there is a good blend in the dressing room as well of young players and experienced players. Hopefully that will stand us in good stead.

"There is a real positive mentality about the group. The manager and the coaching staff are demanding of us, and rightly so."

McGregor, who turns 38 in January, has made 29 appearances this season and triggered an extension.

"It's very pleasing," he said. "I've not really been thinking about it but there was a wee bit in the contract that if I played a certain amount of games (that would trigger the extension).

"It's done now and I'm just looking forward to another year.

"I'm pleased I'm actually fit and staying healthy. I've done all right, I'm just disappointed we've not won anything yet. But hopefully we can change that."
