Kick it Out: 'FA should follow UEFA example'

Herman Ouseley, chairman of anti-racism group Kick it Out, wants the FA to adopt UEFA's proposed minimum ban of 10 games for racial abuse instead of their own five-match ban plan.

Kick it Out chairman Herman Ouseley has called for the FA to follow UEFA's proposed example of stronger punishments for racist abuse.

UEFA will vote on plans to introduce a minimum 10-match ban in such cases, but the FA is thought to be more keen on a minimum five-match ban instead.

FA chairman David Bernstein has already hinted that it won't follow UEFA's example, but Ouseley believes that not doing so would undermine their 'zero tolerance' stance against racism.

"If UEFA are prepared to go with 10 - let's go with 10 [in England]. We will look stupid if UEFA go with 10 and we go with five," Ouseley told Associated Press.

"It will not add any credibility to the FA's stance it has zero tolerance on this matter. I think it's very important they build credibility and send out a very confident message that will make people feel they can complain and something will be done."

Meanwhile, Roma have been fined £42,500 after their fans racially abused AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli during last night's goalless draw between the two sides.
