Queens Park Rangers striker Jay Bothroyd says that he is ready to fight for his place in the squad.

Jay Bothroyd has insisted that he will continue to battle for his place, even if Queens Park Rangers sign a striker during this month's transfer window.

The R's have been widely tipped to sign Loic Remy from Marseille in the next 24 hours, while West Bromwich Albion's Peter Odemwingie is said to be a target.

However, Bothroyd has revealed that he is determined to prove his worth to manager Harry Redknapp.

"Everyone knows that Harry is a very honest and fair man. He hasn't closed the door to anyone. He said to me, 'Keep your head down work hard, everyone knows you have the ability, you have to show it'. This was the opportunity I wanted and that's all you can hope for," he told the London Evening Standard.

"Obviously I want to be here and stay with QPR. I want to help the club. I'm determined to be here, to work hard for my spot.

"If the club sign another striker, I will welcome the competition and look to prove a point. From the day I was at Arsenal there has always been competition. It is down to me to work just as hard to keep the shirt."

Bothroyd scored the only goal of the game as QPR reached round four of the FA Cup against West Bromwich Albion last night.
