Nottingham Forest cruise past Wigan Athletic

Nottingham Forest record a 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic thanks to goals from Britt Assombalonga, Chris Burke and Henri Lansbury.

Dougie Freedman recorded his second consecutive victory as new Nottingham Forest boss as they beat Wigan Athletic 3-0 on Wednesday evening.

Goals from Britt Assombalonga, Chris Burke and Henri Lansbury gave the home side the points to leave them 10th in the Championship.

The Latics nearly opened the scoring when Kim Bo-Kyung lashed one in from long range, but Forest goalkeeper Karl Darlow was equal to the effort.

The home side were next to try their luck but Ali Al-Habsi got his body behind Michail Antonio's long-range attempt on the half-hour mark.

Club-record signing Assombalonga opened the scoring for Freedman's men when he wriggled free of his marker inside the box before turning the ball home on 34 minutes.

Forest could have doubled their advantage shortly after but Lansbury could only fire over the bar when well placed after a good ball from Antonio.

Burke made it 2-0 five minutes when into the second period when he slammed the ball past Al-Habsi after a raking pass from Antonio.

Lansbury then put Forest in total control with a curling effort just after the hour mark before Assombalonga was stretchered off with an injury.
