Alex Neil: 'Norwich City stay looks likely'

Norwich City manager Alex Neil reveals that he is "likely" to stay at the club despite their relegation from the Premier League this season.

Norwich City manager Alex Neil has revealed that he is likely to stay at the club despite their relegation from the Premier League this season.

The 34-year-old steered the Canaries into the top flight last term, but saw their immediate return to the second tier confirmed despite a 4-2 victory over Watford in midweek.

Norwich signed off from the Premier League with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Everton this afternoon, but Neil is confident that he will still be the club's manager next season.

"There's been brief discussions. I'll have more discussions tomorrow but it looks likely at the moment that I'll be here for next season," he told reporters.

Neil also rejected suggestions that the club's relegation caused his players to take their foot off the pedal at Goodison Park in their final match of the campaign.

"If they've got any sort of professional pride then it shouldn't be tough. Certainly for the 2,000 fans that have travelled up, the least they deserved was for every player to give their all," he added.

"If everybody wants to call themselves a professional football player, the first part's the essential part - professional. I think regardless of what game you're playing, you should be up for it 100%."

Norwich have now been relegated from the Premier League four times, a tally only Crystal Palace can match.
