John Carver tells Newcastle United players to avoid media

John Carver tells his relegation-threatened Newcastle United players to avoid all media in the final week of the Premier League season.

Newcastle United manager John Carver has instructed his players to avoid all media for the final week of the Premier League season.

The Magpies are one of three clubs who can finish in the third and final relegation place next Sunday after losing 2-1 at already-relegated Queens Park Rangers yesterday.

Carver is hoping that his side can fully focus on securing their Premier League status by ignoring all media ahead of their game with West Ham United.

"I'll tell the players to keep away from the TV and going online, to keep them focused on preparation," PA quotes Carver as saying.

"If you take your eye off the ball you get punished, and we've got to keep our focus sharp.

"It's still in our hands, and if you want it enough then you can do something about it."

Newcastle have to beat West Ham next Sunday to guarantee their survival. They will also stay up if Hull City fail to beat Manchester United at home.
