Jonas Gutierrez: 'Newcastle United return would be greatest moment of my career'

Jonas Gutierrez admits that returning to the Newcastle United side after beating cancer would be the greatest moment of career.

Jonas Gutierrez has claimed that recovering from cancer to play for Newcastle United again would be the greatest moment of his career.

The Argentine has beaten testicular cancer on two occasions, and after recently continuing his bid for full fitness by joining up with Newcastle's Under-21 side, he admits that he is eyeing an emotional return for the Magpies.

"Yes, I have played in a World Cup, but if I play again for Newcastle then that will be the best moment of my career," Gutierrez told the Daily Mail. "To get back after the cancer and chemotherapy, to put all of that behind me, would be a huge moment for me. It would be emotional.

"If I come back and play for Newcastle then for me it will be the best.

"I have been at this club and in this city for seven years. The welcome from the fans from the day I arrived has been special, I have always had a special relationship with them."

The 31-year-old's current deal with the club expires at the end of the season.
