John Carver: 'Fabricio Coloccini was almost blinded by coin'

Newcastle United boss John Carver claims that Fabricio Coloccini was almost blinded after he was hit by a coin while celebrating his side's opening goal against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Newcastle United manager John Carver has claimed that captain Fabricio Coloccini was almost blinded after he was hit by a coin while celebrating his side's opening goal against Crystal Palace.

The missile was thrown at the Newcastle players after Papiss Cisse had given the Magpies the lead in the 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park this evening.

Carver says that it was fortunate that no serious injury was suffered by the Argentine defender as a result of the incident.

"It just can't happen," he told The Express. "It's got to be taken out of the game. I saw it and it misses his eye by an inch, another inch and it could blind him.

"I'm sure the authorities will deal with it. Let's find out who it was and sort it out."

Referee Andre Marriner is expected to include the incident in his match report.
