Romelu Lukaku is reportedly set to be hit with a maximum fine of £400,000 after the Belgian failed to return to training with Manchester United on Tuesday.

Manchester United will reportedly hit Romelu Lukaku with a maximum fine of almost £400,000 after the Belgian refused to return for training on Tuesday.

The striker had been granted permission to train with Anderlecht's reserves on Monday, when United players were given a day off, but failed to report back to Carrington the following day.

Lukaku, who did not play a minute for United over pre-season, is waiting to secure a move to Italy before the transfer window closes.

According to The Mirror, Lukaku will receive a severe dressing down from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when he returns to Manchester and is set to be hit with the maximum fine for going AWOL.

The 26-year-old was ready to complete a move to Juventus last week, but the deal broke down after United failed to agree personal terms with Paulo Dybala.

Lukaku, who is desperate to leave Old Trafford, caused a storm online over the weekend when he published confidential details of a speed test involving United's first-team squad.
