Manchester United reportedly decide to make Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane their top transfer target ahead of the summer window.

Manchester United have reportedly decided to prioritise the signing of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

United have been interested in strengthening the centre of their backline for the past two transfer windows, but no new faces have been added in that area of the pitch.

However, the Premier League giants continue to be linked with a number of top names, and it appears that United will attempt to add a World Cup winner to their squad.

According to the Daily Star, club officials are prepared to spend big in order to secure the signature of Varane before the start of next season.

Varane has enjoyed a hugely successful period at the Bernabeu, and Real remain in a strong position to fend off any interest with the 25-year-old still having three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.

However, United may be happy to spend in the region of £100m in order to make a high-profile signing in defence.
