Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund reportedly reach a broad agreement over a straight loan deal for exiled winger Jadon Sancho.

Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund have reportedly reached a 'broad agreement' over a deal to loan Jadon Sancho back out to the Westfalenstadion for the remainder of the season.

The 23-year-old's Old Trafford career has been in tatters ever since he publicly hit back at Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag over his omission from the squad to face Arsenal in September.

Ten Hag told the media that poor performances in training were to blame for Sancho's absence, accusations which the England winger vehemently denied with a bombshell social media post, in which he claimed that he had been made a "scapegoat".

Sancho pinned the post to his X profile for a short while before removing it, but he has been banished from the first-team picture ever since, and neither he nor Ten Hag appear to be backing down in the stand-off.

An apology from Sancho would have supposedly been enough for Ten Hag to bring him back in from the cold, but the feeling on both sides is that too much time has passed, and all parties are working on the winger's exit from Manchester.

After links with Juventus and Saudi Arabia led to nowhere, Dortmund - whom Sancho had a direct hand in 114 goals in 137 games for - showed an interest in reuniting with Sancho on a short-term loan deal.

Ten Hag has remained tight-lipped on the prospect of Sancho returning to the Bundesliga giants, though, and it was recently reported that a deal had been delayed due to the two clubs still thrashing out the finer terms of the transfer.

Now, Sky Sports News claims that the two parties have a broad agreement in place to send Sancho back to BVB, who are keen for the Englishman to join up with their squad for a warm-weather training camp in Marbella next week.

However, the report adds that there is still no guarantee of a transfer going through over the weekend, as there is no timeframe on how long the two clubs will be finalising crucial details for.

There had been speculation that the loan agreement would also include a £25m permanent option, but Sancho is instead said to be joining on a straight loan deal before his long-term future will be decided over the summer.

Sancho signed a five-year deal upon his arrival at Old Trafford in 2021, and those terms still have two-and-a-half years left to run, while the club also possess the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months until 2027.

The former Manchester City academy product was at the heart of an intense transfer tussle before Man United won the race for his signature two years ago, forking out £73m to bring him back to the Premier League.

However, Sancho has failed to replicate his scintillating Bundesliga form in England, only managing 12 goals and six assists in 82 games for Man United, whom he has not played for since a 3-2 loss to Nottingham Forest on August 26.

The Red Devils have already shipped one unwanted player out on loan to the Bundesliga this month, as out-of-favour Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek will spend the rest of the season with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial are also free to talk to foreign clubs after Man United decided against triggering the 12-month extension options in their contracts, which will expire at the end of the current campaign.
