Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian is reportedly waiting to see whether he will be allowed to leave the club and return to Italy before the end of the month.

The 28-year-old is eager to end his three-year spell at Old Trafford in search of more regular first-team football, having made just eight Premier League appearances last season.

The likes of Juventus, Napoli and Inter Milan have all been linked with a move for Darmian this summer, but no deal has yet been struck.

The Manchester Evening News reports that United are willing to let the Italy international leave the club should a suitable offer arrive, but would prefer to keep him for another year having loaned out Timothy Fosu-Mensah to Fulham.

Darmian played the full 90 minutes of United's season-opening win over Leicester City on Friday night, with other right-back options Antonio Valencia and Diogo Dalot both injured.

However, the former Torino man is understood to have been staying in a city centre hotel since returning from holiday as he waits to discover whether he will be moving back to his home country this summer.

Darmian is currently in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, although the club have the option of a further 12-month extension on top of that.
