Chelsea could rival Manchester United for the signature of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, according to a report.

Chelsea and Manchester United could reportedly lock horns for the signature of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez during this summer's transfer window.

The 26-year-old still has more than five years left to run on his contract at Wanda Metropolitano and was again a regular for his capital club during the 2020-21 season, making 41 appearances in all competitions.

Atletico are thought to be open to selling the Spaniard this summer, though, with the capital outfit believed to have placed a £68m asking price on the midfielder.

Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Juventus have all been linked with a move in the current market, while Man United are thought to be showing a strong interest.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is keen to bring a new midfielder to Stamford Bridge ahead of next season and has identified Saul as the ideal acquisition.

The former Real Madrid youngster, who was left out of the Spain squad for Euro 2020, has made 337 appearances for Atletico in all competitions.
