Manchester United transfer roundup: Robert Lewandowski a target, Erik ten Hag convinces Frenkie de Jong to join

Sports Mole rounds up the latest Manchester United transfer news, including a possible move for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

Manchester United are working to boost their squad during this summer's transfer window, with a number of players linked with switches to the club since Erik ten Hag's arrival as head coach.

The Red Devils will officially begin pre-season training later this month, and Ten Hag will want to have some new faces on board before the club start their preparations for the 2022-23 campaign.

Here, Sports Mole provides a transfer roundup of the biggest stories involving the 20-time English champions.

Manchester United are reportedly lining up a summer approach for Robert Lewandowski, as the forward continues to be linked with a move away from Bayern Munich.

The 33-year-old has made it clear that he wants to leave Bayern during this summer's transfer window, 12 months before the end of his contract at Allianz Arena.

Barcelona continue to be strongly linked with the Poland international, but the Catalan club's financial problems could ultimately price them out of a deal, and according to the Daily Star, Man United are keeping a close eye on the situation in Munich.

The Red Devils have missed out on Darwin Nunez to Liverpool, and the club's desire to add another centre-forward to their squad this summer could allegedly lead to them making a move for Lewandowski, who scored 50 goals and registered seven assists in 46 outings at club level during the 2021-22 campaign.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has allegedly convinced Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong to join the 20-time English champions during this summer's transfer window.

The Netherlands international recently expressed a desire to remain at Camp Nou amid suggestions that he was a leading transfer target for Man United.

However, according to The Mirror, Ten Hag has been in discussions with the player that he managed at Ajax, and the new Red Devils manager has convinced the midfielder to make the move to Old Trafford.

The Premier League club are said to be locked in talks with Barcelona over a transfer fee, and De Jong could potentially become the first signing of the Ten Hag era.

Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Manchester United during this summer's transfer window.

The 26-year-old made 42 appearances for Los Blancos in all competitions during the 2021-22 campaign, contributing 12 goals and two assists in the process.

Asensio only has one year left to run on his contract at Bernabeu, though, and there have been suggestions that Carlo Ancelotti's side are open to selling him in the current market.

According to ABC, Man United are currently in talks with the Spain international's agent Jorge Mendes over a possible move to Old Trafford, with Ten Hag keen to sign a left-footed attacker this summer.
