Striking options please Sir Alex Ferguson

Sir Alex Ferguson compares his current Manchester United striking unit to the one that he had in 1999.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed his delight at the attacking options that he has at his disposal.

At present, Ferguson has Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck all vying for a slot in his starting lineup.

Ferguson has admitted that his quartet of frontmen remind him of the four centre-forwards that he had during the treble-winning season of 1999.

"The comparison is the numbers, having four strikers is a definite advantage. The four we had in 1999 - Yorke, Cole, Solskjaer and Sheringham were fantastic," Ferguson told Yahoo! Sport. "They never really complained about being left out as long as felt they were making a contribution and that year we won the treble which made them easier to manage.

"Hopefully that will apply itself again because if we are winning they will all need to contribute. There is no question about that."

Ferguson's team are currently top of the Premier League table with 17 matches gone.
