Manchester United legend Paul Scholes admits that he is concerned about the possibility of Anthony Martial leaving the club this summer due to a lack of game time.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has admitted that he is concerned Anthony Martial could leave the club this summer if he is not shown more "love" by manager Jose Mourinho.

Martial has made just 18 Premier League starts this season, including only four since the end of January as he fell down the pecking order following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez.

The 22-year-old's lack of game time resulted in him missing out on a place in France's squad for the World Cup, and Scholes believes that he could be tempted to leave in search of more regular first-team football.

"I'd like to think he'd stay, he's a young player and he's still got time to develop. Whether his manager quite fancies him I'm not too sure about that at the minute, he's not shown too much confidence in him," Scholes told BT Sport.

"I think he's a really good talent, as I say young, there's still time, I think he needs a bit of love he needs an arm around him. He needs a consistent run of games, he's coming in and every time he comes on he impresses me - he's a player I'd like to have in my team.

"I just hope he's not one of those players that leaves and then we see the best of them. There is a danger."

Martial has scored 11 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions for United this season.
