Raheem Sterling hails Pep Guardiola

Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling says that Pep Guardiola's "winning mentality has rubbed off on the players" at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling has revealed that Pep Guardiola's "winning mentality has rubbed off on the players" at the Etihad Stadium.

City have won 16 of their 17 Premier League matches this season to open up an 11-point lead at the top of the table.

The Citizens also breezed through their Champions League group, and are seen by many to be among the favourites to win the European Cup this season.

Sterling has offered an insight into Guardiola's style of coaching, claiming that the 'intense' manager is able to drag the best out of each and every player at the club.

"When he first came in he said 'I'm an intense sort of coach', trying to get the best out of his players. He tries to get the best out of you, no matter who we play, no matter what opposition or competition, his preparation is always the same," Sterling told BBC Sport.

"Whether it's a team at the top of the league or a team at the bottom of the league, it's always the same focus - he doesn't want us to get complacent, have that slight turn off, he wants us to always be ready, always be focused.

"His standards are really high, he always wants to win, he always tries to give you the best chance to win and that winning mentality has rubbed off on the players."

City will look to win their 16th straight Premier League match when they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Etihad Stadium in Saturday's late kickoff.
