Burnley are allegedly contemplating whether to appoint Manchester City legend and current Anderlecht boss Vincent Kompany as their new manager.

Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany has allegedly emerged as a leading contender for the vacant Burnley job.

Since Sean Dyche departed earlier this month, interim boss Mike Jackson has delivered seven points from three matches, moving the Clarets outside of the Premier League relegation zone.

However, regardless of their top-flight fate, the job is attracting high-profile interest with Derby County's Wayne Rooney said to be tempted by the position.

According to the Daily Mail, Kompany is also very much in the running to succeed Dyche after spending two years in his native Belgium with Anderlecht.

The 36-year-old has recorded 40 victories and just 17 defeats from 87 matches in charge, posting fourth and third-placed finishes in the league and reaching the domestic cup final, only to lose out to Gent on penalties.

Although Kompany still has two years remaining on his contract, his return to English football could suit all parties, but a decision may not be made by Burnley until their status ahead of 2022-23 is known.
