Alan Kennedy: 'Nathaniel Clyne is priority signing for Liverpool'

Former Liverpool defender Alan Kennedy says that the Reds should look to sign Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne this summer.

Former Liverpool full-back Alan Kennedy has said that the Reds must sign Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton.

The England defender has been linked with a move to Anfield, with the Saints reportedly demanding £15m for his signature.

Kennedy believes that Clyne is the type of player that Liverpool need to add to their ranks.

"Clyne is very good, we all saw how good he was when Southampton came to Anfield last season, and he scored their goal," Kennedy told the Liverpool Echo.

"He has got something about him everybody likes and he is something we need.

"If we don't think Manquillo is going to do it at the club and we have lost Glen Johnson, the logical thing is to go out and buy the next best thing and I think that is Nathaniel Clyne."

Clyne has made 104 appearances for Southampton since joining the club in 2012.
