Brendan Rodgers: 'We'll learn from defeat'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers wants his players to "learn" some lessons from their defeat against Manchester United.

Brendan Rodgers has backed his Liverpool side to "learn" from their 2-1 defeat against Manchester United this afternoon.

The Reds fell behind to goals by Robin van Persie and Nemanja Vidic but the half-time introduction of new signing Daniel Sturridge swung the game in Liverpool's favour and they even had chances to claim an equaliser in the closing stages.

"In the second half, after we conceded the goal, we could have given up the fight but that is the nature of the group," he told BBC Sport. "In the end, I thought we maybe deserved something from the game. The goals we conceded were disappointing.

"We will learn from days like today, even though we didn't get the result. In the first half we never threatened enough.

"There wasn't too many chances either way and the ones they had we presented to them. [Daniel Sturridge] was terrific when he came on and we were much better in the second half."

Despite the loss, Liverpool remain eighth in the Premier League table.
