Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers: 'Manchester City title favourites'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists that Manchester City are the favourites to win the Premier League title.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Manchester City are the favourites to win the Premier League title this season.

The Reds moved above the Sky Blues into second place in the table following this evening's 2-1 win over Sunderland, but Rodgers was quick to point out that Manuel Pellegrini's side have two games in hand.

"It's up to other teams to lose, so we will keep working hard," BBC Sport quotes Rodgers as saying.

"I'm not playing it down, I don't play silly mind games. If City win their games, they win. It's simple maths.

"Manchester City have games in hand and the squad to win the title and the Champions League, Chelsea likewise, but we are enjoying being up there."

Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge were on target for Liverpool against Sunderland, with the Black Cats' reply coming from Ki Sung-Yueng.
