Defender Dejan Lovren says that Liverpool will 'perform better' when they face Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Defender Dejan Lovren has said that he expects Liverpool to do "much, much better" when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

The Blues ended Liverpool's 100% start to the new season on Wednesday night as they overturned a one-goal deficit to register a 2-1 victory at Anfield in the EFL Cup.

The two clubs also lock horns in the Premier League this weekend, and Lovren feels that the Merseyside giants will only improve from their showing in midweek.

The centre-back told the club's official website: "Maybe this is tonight like a warm-up for Saturday and so we know what we need to do better.

"When you look altogether, it's the first time that we played like that, [there were] a lot of changes and it was looking quite well, until of course they scored a second goal, but we will take it.

"On Saturday we have a big game against them and we will improve, definitely. I'm confident that we will do much, much better."

Lovren was making his first appearance of the season after recovering from a pelvic injury.
