Jordan Henderson insists Liverpool will come back stronger

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson hopes that the Premier League champions will eventually be "thankful" for their recent dip in form.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has promised that the Premier League champions will return stronger from their recent run of setbacks.

A calamitous final 10 minutes at Leicester City saw the Reds lose 3-1 after being 1-0 up at the King Power Stadium, with that result leading Jurgen Klopp to declare that his side's title defence was over.

The sixth-placed Merseyside giants are now 13 points adrift of leaders Manchester City - who have a game in hand - but Henderson thinks that Liverpool will eventually be "thankful" for the hardships that they are enduring.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Henderson said: "It doesn't feel like it now, but one day when we come out of this tough period – and hopefully that's soon – we'll probably be thankful we had it.

"You become stronger through adversity, you become more together and hopefully in the near future we can get back to the standards we've set for a long period of time.

"Everybody makes mistakes but the mistakes we've made recently have cost us games, so we need to get rid of them as quickly as possible."

Liverpool temporarily turn their attention to the Champions League on Tuesday evening as they face off against RB Leipzig in the first leg of their last-16 clash in Budapest.
