Steven Gerrard "honoured" to become Rangers manager

Steven Gerrard says that he "cannot wait" to start his new job as Rangers manager after penning a four-year contract at Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard has admitted that he is "honoured" to have been named Rangers manager and is looking forward to starting a new chapter in his career.

The 37-year-old will officially take over at Ibrox at the end of the campaign for his first job in senior management, having spent time working as a pundit and coaching Liverpool's age-grade sides since calling time on his playing days.

Gerrard brings an end to a 29-year association with Liverpool after agreeing a four-year contract with the Glasgow club, and he is ready to get going as Graeme Murty's successor.

"I am honoured to become the next manager of Rangers," he told his new side's official website. "I have enormous respect for this football club, and its history and tradition.

"I can't wait to start this new journey at Rangers as we look to build on the many successes that this club has achieved."

Jimmy Nicholl and Jonatan Johansson are expected to take charge of Saturday's match against Kilmarnock, before Rangers see out the campaign with games against Aberdeen and Hibernian.
