Liverpool's Jose Enrique: 'Competition for places is important'

Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique believes that it is "important" for him to compete for his place within the team.

Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique has insisted that he is happy to fight for his starting position within the team.

The Merseyside outfit acquired Kolo Toure, Aly Cissokho, Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori in the transfer window to bolster their defensive options.

"The competition is very good for us," Enrique told the club's official website. "We also have Aly as well, although he is injured now.

"It takes the maximum from you and with the manager, the players who deserve to play and do well will play for him. It's important to have someone behind you that you know could take your place."

Brendan Rodgers's side can keep their place at the top of the Premier League table with a victory over Southampton tomorrow.
