Steve Evans "very proud" of Leeds United players

Steve Evans talks up the courage shown by his Leeds United players to pick up a 1-0 win over Cardiff City at Elland Road.

Leeds United boss Steve Evans has hailed the courage shown by his players to pick up a first home win in eight months.

The Whites recorded a 1-0 victory over Cardiff City at Elland Road this evening to move up to 17th place in the Championship.

As well as putting an end to a home drought that had stretched back 12 games before tonight, the triumph also marks Evans's first win at Elland Road since taking over from Uwe Rosler last month.

Speaking after the game, the Scotsman told reporters: "I'm very proud. I was so down after last Thursday, but we had to lift them. I told them the minimum we needed was effort.

"It was fantastic to be a part of that tonight. The place was rocking - the supporters deserved that win. To play at Elland Road you need heart and courage. We got that tonight."

Leeds, who had failed to beat Cardiff in any of the last 16 meetings between the pair, take on Huddersfield Town in their next outing.
