Disciplinary committee rejects Antonio Conte ban deal

An Italian disciplinary committee rejects a deal to give Antonio Conte a three-month ban for failing to report attempted match fixing in Serie B.

An Italian disciplinary committee has rejected the deal made by Juventus manager Antonio Conte and the federal prosecutor for him be banned and fined.

Conte had entered into a plea bargain after being charged with failing to report attempts to fix two Serie B matches while he was coach of Siena.

A deal was agreed to give Conte a three-month touchline ban and fine of €200.000 (£160,000) for his co-operation, which would have seen the Juve boss miss around 14 matches.

The committee in charge of the Calcioscommese investigation have rejected the deal and want to try Conte for his conduct.

If the case reaches a trial, Conte could face an even longer ban and an additional heavy fine as Italian football is caught up in controversy once again.

Conte led Juventus to the Serie A title in his debut season in charge of the club, with the Old Lady completing a full league campaign unbeaten.
