Stelios Giannakopoulos: 'I fear for football in Greece'

Stelios Giannakopoulos fears for the future of football in his native Greece following violence at games and a poor start to their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

Former Greece midfielder Stelios Giannakopoulos has admitted that he fears for the future of football in his country following a spate of violence at games.

The Greek government has suspended professional football three times this season because of violence at matches, while the national team is bottom of their Euro 2016 qualifying group.

Giannakopoulos told BBC Sport: "Football people like myself, we are little bit concerned about football in Greece in the future.

"We need support from UEFA, from [world players' union] FIFPro and of course we need support from the Greek government, which is completely new. All these [should] sit down together at the same table and take some decisions."

Greece, without a win in Group F, host Hungary on Sunday with just one point from their five qualifying matches.
